“Put your hands up in the air like this,” the emcee commanded as he raised his index finger at the crowd, “for the first ever rave in Baguio! ELEVATE” The crowd, bathed in neon lights, did as he said, jumping and chanting along with the emcee, “Baguio City! Baguio City!”
This was just one of the epic moments we had experienced in Elevate, indeed the first ever Electronic Dance Music festival in Baguio, and we are semi-proud to say we stayed sober enough to enjoy every minute of it while still being controllably wild.
The event was held at the Baguio Convention Center grounds, which turned out to actually be a good venue for the festival. The venue was divided into two sections, the VIP section and the general admission. And fortunately for us, we got in the VIP section where we could get a really good view of the DJs performing and get a good helping of loud music blasting into our ears.
Speaking of DJs, the event was graced with the presence of top performing Philippine DJs:
DJ Mark Marasigan and DJ Travis Monsod with MC Ronthug are familiar faces in the EDM scene. They also performed at the SM Northern Lights festival, and we look forward to seeing them in Zambales for Summer Siren 2016.
DJ Ace Ramos, Club DJ of the Year at the Urban Music Awards 2014, was there to drop his rocking beats, and we could definitely see (or should we say hear) why he won the title.
And of course, our personal favorite, TOM TAUS!
Oh yes. Tom Taus. Who would have thought that this Munting Prinsipe would turn out to be such a hunky slab of EDM meat with mad skillz. Yum!
Everytime he accompanied his mix with his drum set, the crowd got super pumped and mesmerized. We wished he had more than one hour of exposure.
But that is, of course, to make way for the next DJs who also made Elevate such an unforgettable event that by 4 am, we were all exhausted from jumping around and grooving to the beat.
As Baguio’s first rave, we think that the overall turnaround was great and hope it paves the way for more raves to come. If there will be a next EDM Festival in Baguio City, we would like to invite everyone and join in on this celebration of really good head-banging, arm-raising, foot-stomping, body-pumping music.
