Animus Anima is the project of photographers Sela Gonzales and Jenny Aguimayo Garcia under the creative direction of Laydeh Alberto, capturing images of women in an all natural light, and by “all natural”. we mean au naturale.

Shot in black and white for more drama and mystery, the photographs highlight the gorgeous lines and curves of the women. A contrast of light and dark shadows is a metaphor that there are two sides to everyone.

The philosophy of the photography exhibit is that every person’s individuality is influenced by both the masculine and feminine components of their psyche.¬†Animus Anima pays tribute to the individuals, specifically women, who have mastered the art of harmonizing their masculine and feminine energies in “being a woman in a man’s world.”

The venue for the exhibit is an ancestral Baguio house called La Casa Adela, located just near City Hall. It is also the location for the photo shoot of the muses. La Casa Adela has been around since the early 20th Century, and the structure’s vintage feel provided the backdrop for the muses.

The art show was accompanied with a poetry reading by Faye Marino, along with music, a light show, and dancing to bring the mood even further.

We also had some wine and cheese, which made the event feel classy AF.

As James Brown’s famous song states, this is a man’s world, but it would be nothing, nothing, without a woman or a girl. We salute Sela, Jenny, Laydeh and all the women who have worked together on Animus Anima, bringing even more female empowerment to Baguio.
